Low Relief Techniques
Many of Bea’s sculptures employ low relief techniques with enhanced colours, as from a painter's palette, to give the impression of 3D depth. After years of research, she completed this 2m x 3m ceramic mural in 2000, commemorating the traditional methods of cultivating chicory in Belgium (Grondwitloof). See this page for close-up photos of the mural.
The Enlighteners
These sculptures are about consideration for others. Their low relief designs make you look twice when viewed from different angles, revealing some of the depths in people's personalities.
The Messengers
This series of sculptures is based on paintings I created that highlight the importance of light to all life forms and the fact that climate change is reducing light levels through increased cloud cover. The photos show the front and back of each sculpture, below which are the paintings that inspired them. The series begins with a seemingly healthy environment and the following sculptures show its progressively deteriorating state.
If we as individuals fail to take urgent action to reduce climate change, the outcome for most of earth's life forms will be Darkness.
